The Team Foundation Server is not a member of a domain, so all the users have their accounts created as local users on that server. The server box itself is not located where users can easily log in to change their passwords or unlock an account, so we need to be able to do that remotely. Further more complicated account admin tasks will follow, but these are the more urgent requirements:

List all accounts on the server that are members of a specific group (to be configurable in web.config; we only want to display TFS-related accounts).
Allow an account to be unlocked (the viewing user will have to have a valid, active, administrator account though we'll have to allow Basic Authentication).
Allow an account's password to be reset, but only the account currently being used to view the page.
Allow an Administrator to clear the "Password Expires" flag on an account.

2. Run app pool in admin acount context and authenticate users using asp.net

COMMENTED ISSUE: SqlExpress with NSIS

SmartCare currently uses the NullSoft Installer System and needs to switch to SQL Express from MSDE. This forces a change in the installation order (.NET before SQL), among other things and thus needs tweaking and testing.

Currently MSDE is installed before .NET (SQL 2000 engine does not require .NET). SQL Express requires .NET, hence the order change.

SSRS is not in play at this time and I don't think will be until SQL 2008 when the IIS requirement is dropped. Also not sure that SQL Express 2008 drops the IIS requirement or whether it is just Standard and up.

Most of the feedback for SmartCare is gathered in the field where the team has to work offline. Ideally work items should be captured offline and bulk-uploaded or synchronized. The simplest solution right now is an email gateway so that work items can be captured by sending email to a specific address, perhaps allowing for routing based on whether it is internal or external feedback.

Why is the change in the installation order required for SQL Express 2005? Also, do you plan to install SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services (for the SSRS capabilites included?) Given the requirement for IIS,that's probably not practical yet.

However, since I've started work on my Katmai book, and am communicating with the PG regularly already, I can probably find out whether the IIS requirement has been removed in SQL Express 2008 with Advanced Services. If this is the case, then using SSRS in Express may allow us to remove the dependencies on Crystal.

The default build notification email (via Project Alerts) notifies us of build failures, but those of us working remotely do not have access to the network share where the build report is to be found.

This task is to determine if/how one can have that notification email carry the build report as an attachment, ideally as a compressed file, perhaps by modifying the email template.
Alternatively, a new subscription (perhaps with its own web service) is to be created to facilitate external visibility issue.
Last resort, if none of the above is simple / feasible, we may need to build an ASPX to simply show a list of all build reports and change the email template to link to that "gateway" page in stead of the network share.

The check-in notification email template stopped showing the text of the associated work items. Need someone to take a look at the template and see if it needs fixing or whether there's something else broken.

The SmartCare application currently uses the NullSoft Installer System.

We need to change it to install SQL Server 2005 Express instead of MSDE. This involves changing the installation order of some items, like the .NET Framework that needs to be installed before SQL. This is for the installer of a "fresh" v3.2.1.

Subsequently we need to deal with upgrade steps. It may be worth investigating an installation sequence where we use an MSI / Visual Studio Installer Project to install .NET, SQL Express and then run our own bootstrapping process: check existence of SQL Express, DB, appropriate version of schema, etc. and then take actions with minimal user input. This is still under discussion so to keep the disruption to the team at a minimum, we first need to adapt the NSIS installer to take on SQL Express, then we can investigate the MSI option.

Another consideration is the possible use of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (after it RTMs this summer). We won't wait for this release, to do the upgrade, however anyone working on the installer should be aware that the Z-team is evaluating 2008 for the inclusion of SSRS (without the IIS dependency).
